Witness the birth of TV science fiction!
Ten Acre Films Ltd is pleased to announce the publication of an exciting new book exploring the making of British Television’s first science fiction classic — Nigel Kneale’s landmark serial The Quatermass Experiment, broadcast live from BBC Alexandra Palace in 1953.
Over 30 years in the making and produced with the cooperation of the Nigel Kneale Estate, The Quatermass Experiment: The Making of TV’s First Sci-Fi Classic is an in-depth history by Toby Hadoke, drawing on dozens of candid interviews, production paperwork and in-depth research, illustrated with dozens of rare and unseen photographs from the studio floor.
The book includes a foreword by screenwriter Peter Harness (Doctor Who, Interstellar for Apple TV) and an afterword by Jon Dear, who produced the 2023 Quatermass Experiment 75th anniversary live reading at Alexandra Palace. The Quatermass Experiment: The Making of TV’s First Sci-Fi Classic is published on 12 May in trade paperback and is available by mail order directly from tenacrefilms.bigcartel.com or via specialist bookshops.
Toby Hadoke is available for print and broadcast interviews and promotion; unseen photography from the Nigel Kneale Estate is available for use in tie-in coverage in print and online.
